Models and Methods for HW/SW Intellectual Property Interfacing

چکیده
This paper focuses on the problem of enabling system companies to quickly integrate IPs from di erent sources, and adapt them to di erent manufacturing technologies. An evolutionary approach from current methodologies is possible with appropriate and extensive CAD support. We cover the main aspects of interfacing Intellectual Property, both in hardware and software form, in an embedded system design context. In particular, we review the main approaches to speci cation, synthesis and validation of interfaces that have appeared in the literature. From the speci cation viewpoint, we illustrate the main protocol and timing constraint speci cation models. From the synthesis and optimization viewpoint, we review software and hardware generation, as well as time-driven interface scheduling techniques. From the veri cation viewpoint, we discuss various strategies for hardware/software co-simulation, with special attention to the interface layer. Finally, we consider the growing importance of formal veri cation in this domain, and outline the main techniques for interface protocol veri cation.

Hardware/Software-Codesign by Automatic Embedding of Complex IP Cores
Complex SoC and platform-based designs require integration of configurable IP cores from multiple sources. Even automatic compilation flows from a high-level description to HW/SW systems can benefit from having access to reusable sophisticated hand-optimized IP blocks. This work proposes the Parametric C Interface For IP Cores (PaCIFIC) to allow the automatic embedding of complex IP cores in a ...

This report describes the SpecC methodology for system-level embedded system design. The methodology consists of a set of well-deened tasks and design models which allow the easy insertion and reuse of intellectual property. Starting from the abstract executable speciication written in SpecC diierent design alternatives concerning the system architecture (components and communication) can be ex...
متن کاملObject-Based Communication Architecture for System-on-Chip Design
In this work, we present an integrated approach to the SoC design problem based on a mixed (HW and SW) implementation of a system-level middleware specifically designed for SoCs: the Object-Oriented Communication Engine (OOCE). OOCE provides a high-level and homogeneous view of the SoC components based on the Distributed Object paradigm. The resulting communication infrastructure easies the int...
متن کاملAutomatic HW/SW Interface Generation for Seamless Integration from Object-Oriented Models
Hardware-dependent Software (HdS) synthesis is becoming a key aspect in the development of mixed software and hardware computation platforms due to the increasing software content in such systems. Uniform and high-level interface models for both HW and SW are required in order to perform HdS development in parallel with the platform prototyping. In this paper, an optimal hardware and software in...
متن کاملMultithreading-based Coverification Technique of HW/SW Systems
An embedded system consists of a set of heterogeneous components. These components may be software or hardware blocks with a limited specification. A global verification of such systems to check the equivalence between their implementation and their specification is challenging. Number of tools such as Seamless-CVE and Eaglei are now available. These tools perform the coverification of HW/SW sy...
